Expedition Overview

Altitude Junkies (P) Ltd. offer one of the most cost-effective full-service expeditions to Ama Dablam in the Khumbu region of the Nepalese Himalaya.

We don’t advertise an expedition price and then ask for additional payments at the conclusion of the expedition such as Sherpa summit bonus and kitchen staff gratuities as some of the other operators do. The price you pay the Junkies is the final price.

This expedition is offered with a 1:1 Sherpa to climber ratio. There is no western leader from Altitude Junkies Inc. present on the expedition.

Himlung Himal is comparatively easier and much more straightforward than any other 7,000-meter expedition in Nepal. This makes it the absolute best introduction to sustained high-altitude climbing. Once you successfully summit Himlung, you will have the technical foundation and altitude experience needed to confidently transition to an 8,000-meter peak like Manaslu or Everest.

Leadership

A seasoned veteran Sherpa with multiple summits will assist a climber during this expedition.

Helicopters

We utilize helicopters at the conclusion of the expedition back to Kathmandu.

The Trek to Base Camp

Our journey begins with a rugged, scenic drive from Kathmandu to Koto, followed by a beautiful multi-day trek through the remote Phu Valley. We pass through historic Tibetan-style villages, deep gorges, and lush forests, ensuring a steady, natural acclimatization pace before reaching the mountain.

Base Camp

Our base camp is situated in a spacious, grassy meadow. In true Altitude Junkies fashion, we set up camp featuring heated, carpeted dining, private sleeping tents, clean toilet tents, and hot showers. You will have a comfortable environment to rest and recover between rotations.

Climb Strategy

We employ a flexible, rotation-based strategy. Our 1:1 Sherpa-to-climber ratio ensures you move at your own pace during acclimatization trips to the higher camps. When the weather window opens, our elite Sherpa team fixes the lines up the final, steep snow slopes (35-40 Degree) directly to the summit, allowing us to bypass any crowds safely.

We climb the classic Northwest Ridge. The route avoids major objective hazards like icefalls, offering a safer line than many neighboring peaks. We establish three high camps to ensure a safe progression:

The Route

• Camp 1 (5,450 m): Reached via a steady climb up moraine ridges.
• Camp 2 (6,000 m): Located on a flat, snowy plateau.
• Camp 3 (6,350 m): Placed strategically to shorten the final summit push.

High Altitude Camps

3-person tents will be used at high camps and these will be occupied by two persons. All high altitude food, stoves and cooking gas will be in place and members are only required to carry their own personal gear during the expedition.
