Nepal Visa On Arrival

Nepal offers Visa on Arrival services for eligible international travelers arriving by air at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. Upon arrival, travelers must complete the visa application process and provide their passport details.
Visa application forms are available in the airport’s arrival hall, and some airlines may also provide them during the flight. Travelers with electronic passports can use the self-service visa registration machines in the immigration hall, which help complete the application automatically after scanning the passport.
Alternatively, travelers may obtain a Nepal visa in advance through a Nepalese Embassy or Diplomatic Mission in their country of residence before traveling to Nepal.

Nationals of the following countries are requested to acquire visas before they arrive from their nearby Diplomatic missions (Embassies/consulates) of the Nepal Government :

Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Refugees with a travel document.

Tourist Visa Extention

If you need to extend your stay in Nepal, a tourist visa can be extended for a minimum of 15 days at USD 45, with an additional USD 3 per day for each extra day.
If your visa extension is delayed, a late fine of USD 5 per day may apply for delays of up to 150 days.

Gratis Visa (Visa Fee)

A Gratis Visa is issued free of charge to eligible travelers in the following categories:
– Children under 10 years of age, except U.S. citizens.
– SAARC citizens (except Afghan citizens) visiting Nepal for the first time during a given visa year, for stays of up to 30 days.
– Afghan citizens may receive a Gratis Visa on Arrival only upon recommendation from the Department of Immigration. Travelers should coordinate with the institution inviting them to Nepal to complete the required paperwork.
– Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) cardholders issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad.
– Chinese nationals.
– Officials from China, Brazil, Russia, and Thailand do not require an entry visa under reciprocal visa-waiver agreements.

Ristricted and Prohibited Item

When traveling to Nepal for a mountaineering expedition, climbers should be aware that certain items are prohibited or restricted by Nepalese customs and other authorities. Do not bring any item that may require special authorization without checking the requirements in advance.
Common items that require particular caution include:
– Illegal drugs and narcotics
– Firearms, ammunition, and explosives
– Unauthorized weapons
– Protected wildlife, animal products, or plant materials
– Commercial quantities of goods that are not declared appropriately
– Certain medicines or controlled substances without proper documentation
– Drones and other regulated equipment, which may require separate permission depending on where and how they are used
– Any equipment or material subject to Nepalese customs, environmental, aviation, or national-security regulations

Normal mountaineering equipment such as ice axes, crampons, climbing harnesses, ropes, helmets, and technical clothing can generally be brought for personal expedition use, but travelers should ensure that their equipment complies with airline baggage and security requirements.
